A couple of videos from lunch time today

The first is some general flying about. Apologies for the poor camera angle. The second is a bit more interesting - you can see the moment I had a boom slip, causing a rather unexpected piro.

i had a Britney moment down the field

My crash tally increased by one yesterday as I had abit of a moment losing orientation of the heli. I thought it was banking left, it was banking right and so when i corrected - BOOOOMM!

Still caught the moment on camera for you viewing pleasure...

Quite a bit of damage on this one, but thanks to all the spares my relatives and Isobel bought over xmas I was able to reassemble no problem:-

1 x Blades
1 x Mainshaft
1 x Mainshaft bearing
1 x Mixer arm
1 x Flybar
1 x Flybar paddle
1 x tail boom
1 x tail gear casing

Finally have some footage of my Raptor flying. The flying isn't great as I have some tail issues at the moment. Hopefully fixed by my adjustments made last night (yet to video)

As an aside, here is the danger of firing up the heli if the gyro has not initialized:-

Today was a good day flying.

I achieved a couple of firsts including my first stall turn and left hand turn when travelling left. Also managed to make my loops look like loops rather than back flips.

One of my loops:-

Last week I decided to (finally) balance the Raptor's engine.

The first step was to remove the engine and remove the clutch shoe and cooling fan. The plan was:-

a) balance the fan hub
b) measure the engine runout

First, using the Dubro Tru-Spin balancer I placed a spirit level to ensure we have a level base to place the cooling fan:-

Next we place the cooling fan and identify the high-point:-

This cooling fan was way out of balance, so I removed a little material from the cooling fan such that you can rotate it and there is no obvious high point:-

Got up today and as it was forcast for snow decided to make the most of the clear skys. Outside it was very cold and a bit windy but nothing I haven't encountered before. So with the 450 hovering nicely after some trimming I just went for it and did my first loop!.. then another and another..four in total.

You can see my first loop on the video below:-

A small selection of photos from the weekend - snow and all. If you look closely at the red and white helicopters and you see ones with a blue mark on the black muffler, that is my Raptor. Also i'm the guy in the beige and black jacket.

At the field today, I tried my new and improved mount and its working pretty well. Few modifications are required however, like angle of the camera

MKIII camera mount now ready for testing

yep, hopefully improved the design of the camera mount, to dampen the camera movement in turns and to improve the camera angle.

its true I've actually made some changes...

Just a short note, to say that the photo album has been enhanced with a draggable panel. What this means is that, when you view a picture from the photo album you can move it round the screen by clicking and holding your left mouse button and moving the image to a different position.

Big thanks to Paul Irving for taking these

I asked a friend from work who is pretty niffty with the camera if he would take a few snaps of my DS450 in the air. The results were awesome...
